Dr. Marc de Perrot

A surgeon scientist PMH, Dr. de Perrot is investigating mesothelin and osteopontin, two mesothelioma markers, to detect early disease in populations exposed to asbestos.

As TIAC President, Mike MacDonald (left) applauded our initiative and perseverance, acknowledging our industry's obligation to support this cause and the workers and families of our industry who have been stricken with this ailment.

Speaking as TIAC's Maritime Director, Mike said that although the Maritimes represents but a tiny percentage of the national workforce, he hoped one day they might also mirror Ontario and Western efforts with a tournament of their own.

As Past President of TIAC, Chris Ishkanian (right), spoke on behalf of The British Columbia Insulation Contractors Association (BCICA) who have been historically supported our efforts in Ontario and who have created the Western Canadian Mesothelioma Foundation three years ago.

In the first two years of BCICA's golf tournaments, they raised $33,000 for the Foundation and in this their third year, with a very healthy donation for The Thermal Insulation Association of Alberta (TIAA) of $50,000, the Foundation now as nearly $100,000 from donation.

For more on the Associations in the Canadian mechanical insulation industry continued support for earlier detection and treatment of mesothelioma, see the article in TIAC Times, Summer 2010.
